Global configurations

The Global configurations page lists the Magic Estimations app setting that affects all app users. This page is dedicated to configurations present on the page:

Overview

The Global configurations page of the Magic Estimations app is available to all Jira instance users with Admin privileges. There are 3 main entry points:

  1. From Jira’s Manage apps page:

  2. From More actions menu on Magic Estimations home page:

  3. From Presets dropdown of Create or Edit game modal:

Estimation value presets

While creating a new Magic Estimations game, users have 3 options for selecting estimation values:

  1. Use default values.

  2. Use one of the estimation values presets.

  3. Custom estimation values.

Point #3 - Custom estimation values - is valid for a particular session, it will disappear with the deletion of the session.

Points #1 and #2 are configured on the Global configuration page:

Each field type supported by Magic Estimations has its list of presets:

  1. Numeric fields

  2. Time fields

  3. Text fields.

Note The Priority field that can be estimated with the help of the app doesn’t have its own presets because Jira settings define values for it.

Define default estimation values

Values of the default preset are used to pre-fill estimation values during each session creation. To change the default preset, drag a preset to the top of the list to make it the default one. The default preset is marked with a checkbox:

Edit presets

This feature is unavailable for users of Magic Estimations Lite

  • To edit name or values of a preset, use the Edit preset option (the pencil icon) that appears on preset hover:

  • To delete a preset, use the Delete preset option (the trash icon) that appears on preset hover;

  • To create a preset, use the Add preset option from the upper right part of the page;

  • To roll back preset changes to the default state for all field types, use the Reset all option from the upper right part of the page:

Fallback connection

Magic Estimations app uses Google Firebase to operate. Sometimes, Google Firebase might be unreachable due to the limitations of corporate networks with proxy/firewall. This is when we recommend using the Fallback connection feature:

In information technology, the term fallback refers to a fallback solution to prevent the total failure of a system. In our case, the Fallback connection allows sending packages through various channels instead of just one, allowing the app to operate if the default channel fails.

App usage (usage analytics)

Any Jira admin can check the number of daily connections by Magic Estimations users by clicking on App usage from the upper right part of the page:

Note: “joins” shown on the chart above are not unique users; if a user opens Magic Estimations session, leaves it, and returns in a while, the chart will show the total of 2 connections.

Other settings

Two other options controll preferences for analytics and custom feedback messages:

  • Enable gathering of anonymous usage data

  • Enable feedback notifications

Have a productive estimation!
